The most common cylinder sizes are 100 and 150 pounds; other sizes are available.

Cylinders should be fitted with a 240 valve and a short bent dip tube positioned so the bend is opposite the valve opening.

For Vapor Withdrawal:  The cylinder must be positioned vertically or on its side with the valve opening face down.

For Liquid Withdrawal:  The cylinder must be positioned on its side with the valve opening face up.  

All ammonia cylinders must be authorized for ammonia use by the Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Cylinders must be fastened to a support or nestled closely together to prevent them from falling over and becoming hydrostatically charged.

Special care must be taken not to overfill cylinders because they are not equipped with a safety relief valve.
