Electro Chemical
NH3 Ammonia Sensor / Transmitter
Model
EC-NH3-0/100-N/1
 |
This
sensor utilizes a disposable electrochemical sensor that is easily
replaced by simply unplugging the old sensor and plugging in a new one.
Estimated time it takes to change sensor is approximately 30 seconds.
|
 |
The
sensor has a matching pre-amplifier electronics unit that provides a
linear 4/20-mA signal. |
 |
When
exposed to NH3, the electrochemical cell outputs a signal that is
proportional to the gas concentration. |
Characteristics
 |
Because
of the electrochemical sensor's selectivity, it is excellent for low
PPM trip levels, 25 to 50 PPM. |
 |
The
best range to consider is the 0-100 PPM unit. |
 |
Electrochemical
sensor life is normally two and a half (2½) to three and a half (3½)
years in a cool environment, i.e., below 60°F. |
 |
In
hot machine room environments, the life will shorten to about one (1)
year. |
 |
Even
though the sensor can be exposed to high concentrations of NH3 with
minimal loss of life, extremely high concentrations over hours of
exposure can deplete the sensor. |
 |
As
this sensor ages, it will become less sensitive. |
 |
This
sensor must be tested more often than the solid-state sensor because it can
"fail silently". |
 |
We
recommend testing the sensor a minimum of once a month and more often if the area
protected is highly critical. Consider two (2) sensors for extremely
critical areas. |
 |
The
electrochemical sensor exhibits very selective characteristics to NH3,
food processing environments, moisture and low temperatures.
There is no better method for NH3 detection at present. |
 |
Electrochemical
sensors require special modifications in the following areas: |
1. Refrigerated and high moisture areas.
2. Low temperature, -15° F and below.
3. Duct mounting.
Applications
 |
This
sensor is ideal for processing rooms, refrigerated rooms, blast
freezers, and in rooms where gas-driven forklifts are used. |
 |
The
electrochemical sensor is ideal for refrigerated rooms where fruit is
stored, as the sensor does not respond to ethylene gas. |
 |
Ice
cream room applications are ideal because of the sensor's ability to
sense at low PPM levels, 25 to 35 PPM. |
 |
Stainless
steel housings are available for wash down areas, if required. |
